Mike Kostin was born in Montreal and played for quarterback at Loyola High School and then starting in
1959 for the Loyola College Warriors*. Kostin had to sit out university ball in 1960 for academic reasons, but kept playing football as the starting quarterback for he N.D.G. Maple Leafs junior team. At a tryout camp in 1961, Kostin won a football scholarship to Tulsa along with Dick Aboud and Mike Gibbons who would also go on to play in the CFL. Kostin, however, didn't play any games for Tulsa and returned to Montreal and to Loyola College. In 1964, Kostin was drafted by the Edmonton Eskimos in the college draft and made the team as a starting defensive back and backup quarterback. As a rookie, Kostin went on to record four interceptions in his one CFL season before retiring to go into business. Kostin was selected to the Concordia University Sports Hall of Fame in 2000.
* In 1974 Loyola College merged with Sir George Williams University to become Concordia University.
