Joe Faragalli was born in Philadelphia in 1929 and played college football at Villanova (1950-53). After college, Feragalli spent four years in the United States Army (11th Infantry Division), where he played football and also got his first taste of coaching. After leaving the army, Faragalli coached in the Philadelphia HIgh School system, before returning to Villanova as an offensive line coach from 1962 to 1965. Faragalli first ventured North to the CFL in 1967 as an Assistant Coach with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for three seasons (1967-69). Faragalli returned to the US college ranks and coached at Brown and Marshall before returning to be an Assistant Coach for another three years with the Bombers (1974-76). From 1977-80, Faragalli was an Assistant Coach with the powerhouse Edmonton Eskimos, and that success earned him his first head coaching job in the CFL with Saskatchewan in 1981. Under Faragalli, the Riders improved from 2-14 in 1980 to 9-7 in 1981, and Faragalli was recognized as the CFL Coach of the Year. Faragalli remained the Rider Head Coach for two more seasons (1982 & 1983) then went back South to the NFL as an Assistant Coach with Cincinnati (1984) and Houston (1985). Faragalli returned to the CFL in December of 1986 as the Head Coach of the Montreal Alouettes. Faragalli coached the Als for two exibtion games in 1987, but Montreal folded just prior to the start of the 1987 season. Faragalli was not out of a job for very long as he took over as the Head Coach in Edmonton in 1987 when illness forced Jackie parker to resign. After a bad start for Faragalli, 1987 turned out to be a very good year as his Eskimos went on to win the Grey Cup. Faragalli remained with Edmonton through the 1990 season, making it back to the Grey Cup in 1990, but losing to Winnipg. In 1991, Feragalli took over as the Head Coach of the Ottawa Rough Riders for one season. Faragalli's record as a Head Coach in the CFL was 69-52-1 for a .570 win percentage. Joe Faragalli passed away on April 10, 2006.
