James Dunn was born in Harrisburg, PA. Before coming to Canada, Dunn coached in the U.s. college ranks including a stint as the head coach of Northeastern University from 1937 to 1941. Dunn served as an assistant coach with the Montreal Alouettes from 1952 to 1959 in the Doug (Peahead) Walker era. Dunn then spent two years as an assistant with Saskatchewan (1961-62) and one year with Toronto (1964) before returning to Montreal for one more year in 1965. James Dunn passed away on April 9, 1983.
