Before coming to the CFL, Tim Burke had 20 years of experience in the U.S. College ranks. There were stops at Indiana State, Chatanooga, Kansas State, Purdue and Ball State. Tim Burke started his CFL coaching career with the Calgary in 2005, and spent three seasons (2005-07) with the Stampeders as a defensive assistant coach. From Calgary, Burke moved on to spend three seasons (2008-2010) as the defensive coach for the Montreal Alouettes and was a big part of the team's two Grey Cup victories in 2009 and 2010. Burke's next stop was as the defensive coordinator with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2011. Burke started the 2012 season in the same capacity, but was named the head coach eight games into the 2012 season when the Bombers fired Paul LaPolice.
