RANCHISE CHANGING NAME: Montreal Concordes to Alouettes

NOTE: The playoff structure was revised to allow a fourth place team from one of the divisions to be qualified for the playoffs, as long as that fourth place team has earned more points in the regular season than the third place team from the other division.

TUESDAY JUNE 24
Edmonton 21, CALGARY 20 (27120) - Edmonton WR Stephan Jones caught a 56-yard TD pass. Tom Dixon's convert on the final play was the winner. The Stamps defence sacked Matt Dunnigan 12 times and forced six turnovers.
THURSDAY JUNE 26
BRITISH COL 28, Winnipeg 17 - The Lions led by one, when Mervyn Fernandez hit Ned Armour with an 86-yard passing gain to the Winnipeg 21. QB Roy Dewalt then fired a TD pass to SB Scott Lecky for a 25-17 lead.
TORONTO 21, Hamilton 20 (24100) - A 64-yard single by Hank Ilesic, set up by a fumble recovery late in the game, gave the Argos the win. Ilesic also kicked a single at 7:41 of the fourth quarter to tie the score 20-20.
FRIDAY JUNE 28
OTTAWA 20, Montreal 11 - With J.C. Watts at the helm the Riders generated 151 yards total offence. Tom Burgess generated 99. Although the Riders' offence struggled to just 250 yards, the defense had nine quarterback sacks.

SASKATCHEWAN 28, Calgary 14 (16937) - Riders Rookie RB Bobby Johnson  rushed 25 times for 116 yards and two TD. He got the opportunity to start after RB Craig Ellis was traded to Toronto last week.

Ottawa 18, HAMILTON 2 (15877) - Ottawa SB Mark Barousse.hauled in a team-record 13 passes for 172 yards and a TD as the Riders remained perfect.
FRIDAY JULY 4
Toronto 20, MONTREAL 12 (13281) - QB Norman Gibbs replaced an injured Condredge Holloway, but struggled. The Argo special teams provided a TD on a blocked kick and Hank Ilesic's punts kept the Als pinned deep.

WINNIPEG 56, Saskatchewan 0 (26746) - In the first half, Bomber QB Tom Clements  completed 20 of 23 passes for 274 yards and four TDs and running for a TD in the the most one-sided shutout since August 1959.

Calgary 31, OTTAWA 15 (21266) - The Riders' defence allowed two TDs in the final two minutes of the second quarter as the Stamps jumped into a 21-7 halftime lead. RB Gary Allen ran for 116 yards on 22 carries.

BRITISH COLUMBIA 28, Toronto 17 (42326) - The sleepy Lions, who had just 129 yards in offence in the dull opening half, put together three long scoring drives in the second - 96, 79 and 100 yards  - to take the win.

HAMILTON 28, Winnipeg 11 (13664) - Hamilton QB Ken Hobart  completed only eight of 27 passes for 123 yards, but the defense set a club record with seven interceptions of Tom Clements, John Hufnagel and Homer Jordan.
Edmonton 31, SASKATCHEWAN 19 (16498) - Chris Skinner ran for 158 yards and one TD to lead the Eskimos. His 58-yard TD put Edmonton ahead 16-3. Cliff Toney scored on a 35-yard interception return.

Saskatchewan 21, TORONTO 14 (23500) - Rider RB Bobby Johnson sealed the win with a 24-yard TD run late in the fourth quarter. The game  was delayed for 35 minutes at the start of the third because of a power failure.
EDMONTON 49, Ottawa 39 (26500) - The Riders had a 21-18 lead at halftime, before the Eskimos scored three straight third-quarter TDs to stay undefeated.
FRIDAY JULY 18
CALGARY 23, Hamilton 21 (26201) - WR Steve Stapler fell out of bounds with the ball and one second on the clock. But time expired, controversially, before Hamilton could get Bernie Ruoff onto the field for a long FG attempt.

BRITISH COLUMBIA 27, Montreal 20 - The Lions escaped in the final two minutes when DE James Parker forced Montreal QB Brian Ransom to fumble at his 13. On the next play, Roy Dewalt hit Jan Carinci for the win.

Montreal 29, OTTAWA 28 (20052) - Rookie QB Brian Ransom came off the bench late in the fourth quarter last night to lead the Als to two TDs in the last three minutes, including a 58-yard pass to WR James Hood for the win.
WINNIPEG 25, Calgary 20 - RB Willard Reaves ran for 187 yards and a TD to lead the Bombers, but Joe Poplawski received the loudest cheers when he replaced the injured Trevor Kennerd and kicked a FG and three converts.

British Columbia 36, HAMILTON 21 (16462) - RB Keyvan Jenkins scored two TDs to help B.C. overcome an injury to starting QB Roy Dewalt, who left with a 14-0 first-quarter lead. Tim Cowan directed the Lions the rest of the way.

Toronto 27, SASKATCHEWAN 17 (18307) - Argo QB Condredge Holloway completed only six passes in the first half for a mere 52 yards and Toronto trailed the Riders 11-4. His three second-half TDs were the difference.

Winnipeg 37, MONTREAL 10 (14127) - QB Tom Clements guided the Bomber offense to TDs on their first two possessions. RB Willard Reaves, the CFL's top rusher, ran for a two-yard TD for the game's first scoring play.
Toronto 35, EDMONTON 34 (38674) - Lance Chomyc's 23-yard FG won the game when it went wide for the winning single as time expired. Matt Dunigan had tied the game with an 8-yard TD pass to SB Rick House.

SASKATCHEWAN 33, Ottawa 14 (18024) - K Dave Ridgway made four FGs to lead Saskatchewan to a .500 mark. He also converted the three Saskatchewan TDs, two of which were scored by rookie RB Bobby Johnson.

Bomber QB and threw two TD passes. He found Steve Stapler in the third, then hit Rocky DiPietro with a six-yard strike late in the fourth quarter.

Calgary 31, TORONTO 26 (25752) - Stampeder QB Ken Johnson completed 26 of 41 passes for 366 yards. Ray Alexander was his favorite target with eight receptions for 159 yards.

British Col 25, OTTAWA 19 (23177) - The difference in the game was the toe of  Lui Passaglia with FGs of 11, 13 and 27 yards, a 48-yard punt single, a single and conversions of two second-quarter touchdowns by Jan Carinci.
EDMONTON 33, Winnipeg 5 - Edmonton TDs were scored by Tom Richards on a 77-yard punt return, QB Matt Dunigan on a 1-yard rush and Chris Johnstone on a 5-yard run. Tom Dixon kicked 13 points as well.

HAMILTON 23, Saskatchewan 21 (14507) - With 58 seconds left, Bernie Ruoff kicked a 28-yard FG. Then Dave Ridgway, with 17 seconds left, came in to try a 47- yard FG for the tie, but it was wide and rolled for a single point.

Calgary 30, BRITISH COL 14 (49147) - Calgary jumped on the mistake-prone Lions for three second-quarter TDs. The Lions all but gift-wrapped the win, fumbling on their own three and getting called for two costly penalties.

WINNIPEG 46, Ottawa 14 (23918) - Winnipeg used a 38-point second half Friday to beat the Riders for their fifth straight time. The loss was the Riders' sixth straight, leaving them in the CFL Eastern Division cellar with the Als.

TORONTO 26, Edmonton 20 (28833) - Argo K Lance Chomyc booted a club record six FGs and added a convert for 19 points, while Condredge Holloway was injured and replaced by J.C. Watts, who had been released by Ottawa.

Edmonton 42, CALGARY 19 (33626) - Edmonton QB Matt Dunigan threw four TD passes and ran for another. Veteran WR Brian Kelly hauled in 49- and 18-yard TD passes from Dunigan in the first four minutes to start the rout.
HAMILTON 42, Montreal 7 (23185) - RB Walter Bender ran for three TDs and QB Mike Kerrigan threw for two more as the TiCats continued their reversal. The Ticats extended their unbeaten streak against Montreal to nine games.

quarter capped a furious comeback, which saw the Riders score 21 points.

SASKATCH 21, Hamilton 21 (T) (18565) - Rookie Paul Osbaldiston kicked  a 51-yard FG in the last second of overtime to lift Hamilton to a tie. K Dave Ridgway failed twice to win the game for Saskatchewan.
British Col 34, TORONTO 24 (29714) - Toronto's largest crowd of the season saw the Argos give up four interceptions and two fumbles. BC scored 20 points on turnovers, overcoming a stubborn effort by the Argos defence.

Winnipeg 18, OTTAWA 16 (13572) - With no time left and 47 yards to go, Ottawa QB Todd Dillon's Hail Mary was tipped and Mark Barousse grabbed it for a TD. The attempted 2-point convert was batted away by Ken Hailey.
CALGARY 37, Toronto 14 (25939) - Toronto QBs Condredge Holloway and J.C. Watts were sacked 11 times as the Stampeders destroyed the Argos. LB Alvis Satele led the Calgary defensive attack with four quarterback sacks.

Calgary 32, MONTREAL 12 (9665) - Gary Allen ran for 131 yards and one TD, as Calgary used a strong running attack in the first half, rolling up 212 yards and 22 points in clinching their first playoff berth since 1983.
SATURDAY OCTOBER 25
WINNIPEG 42, Edmonton 20 (32946) - Winnipeg piled up 551 yards in net offence with QB John Hufnagel passing for 420 yards. The Bombers won their fifth straight and ended Edmonton's 7-game winning streak.

HAMILTON 20, Toronto 10 (24430) - Ken Hobart came off the bench to start
the second half and produced 10 points to put Hamilton in first place. He has been benched in favor of Mike Kerrigan since Hamilton got off to a 1-4 start.
Brit Col 29, SASKATCHEWAN 17 (16388) - B.C. scored 15 first-half points from three Roughrider turnovers and Melvin Byrd put the game out of reach with a 56-yard interception romp for a TD with less than two minutes to go.

CALGARY 36, Saskatchewan 4 (24704) - Rick Johnson passed for two TDs and ran for another to lead Calgary. By improving from six points to 22, the Stamps recorded the second-best comeback in modern CFL history.

OTTAWA 16, Edmonton 16 (T) (14058) - Ottawa K Ken Clark was short on an attempted 56-yard punt for a game-winning single with time gone in the second session.
SUNDAY NOVEMBER 2
British Col 26, WINNIPEG 20 (31817) - B.C. K Lui Passaglia supplied 14 points with field goals of 29,19,18 and 20 yards and two converts. The loss was  Winnipeg's first at home this season.
TORONTO 25, Montreal 21 (23488) - The struggling Argos scored two TDs within 39 seconds to get by the Als. The TDs in the last minute were a 6-yard run by QB J.C. Watts and a 13-yard pass from Watts to SB Paul Pearson.

HAMILTON 20, Ottawa 19 (14101) - Paul Osbaldiston made up for an errant kick early in the fourth quarter with a 36-yard boot through the uprights with 16 seconds remaining to give the Tiger-Cats first place in the East.
SATURDAY NOVEMBER 8
BRIT COL 36, Winnipeg 24 (54723) - The Lions scored 26 points from six Winnipeg turnovers. The loss was Winnipeg's third of the year to the Lions and gave the resurgent B.C. club second place in the West.
SUNDAY NOVEMBER 9
Toronto 37, MONTREAL 16 (9045) - An actual crowd of 2,000 saw the Argos
take a 21-0 lead into halftime, and then blow the game open with 16 unanswered points in the third to finish first for the fourth time in five years.

Sat Nov 15 - BRIT COL 21, Winnipeg 14 (40381) - Sean Kehoe's fumble on a
messed-up third-down gamble at the B.C. one-yard line with under two minutes remaining clinched the win fo the Lions. It was the fourth time this season Lions were able to beat Bombers and the third straight.
Sun Nov 16 - EDMONTON 27, Calgary 18 (24064) - The temperature
was -18°C, cold enough to result in the smallest CFL crowd ever in Edmonton, but QB Matt Dunigan ran for 113 yards and two TDs. Four times he masterminded scoring drives of more than 60 yards.

Sun Nov 16 - TORONTO 31, Hamilton 17 (23126) - Toronto's J.C. Watts ran for two TDs and threw for another. Hamilton's Mike Kerrigan started the game with a red-hot 1st quarter in which he completed eight of his first nine passes, including a 12-yard TD to WR Tony Champion for an early Ticat lead.
Sun Nov 23 - HAMILTON 42, Toronto 25 (32041) - The Tiger-Cats evened the aggregate score at 49 points each on the last play of the third quarter. A Hamilton FG and Toronto touchdown later, Matt Kerrigan settled the matter for good with a six-yard strike to Ron Ingram with 1:42 remaining.

Sun, Nov 23 - EDMONTON 41, British Columbia 5 (32490) - QB Matt Dunigan shook off fatigue and a painful elbow injury to throw three TD passes; Tom Dixon booted 17 points and the Edmonton defence was so dominant it left the B.C. offence shattered and disheartened.


1986 GREY CUP GAME AT VANCOUVER (Sunday, November 30- 59621)
HAMILTON TIGER-CATS 39, EDMONTON ESKIMOS 15 - Losers of the previous two Grey Cups, Hamilton gave their long suffering fans something to celebrate with an unexpected dominant performance over the Eskimos.
Hamilton's defence, which was led by Grover Covington and Ben Zambiasi, sacked Edmonton QBs Matt Dunigan and Damon Allen a total of 10 times. They also forced eight turnovers to tie a Grey Cup record. Hamilton jumped out to a 29-0 lead at halftime.
