[Charles Richard (Dick) Walton] Walton was generally known as Dick Walton from his high school days in Canon City, Colorado where he was an outstanding athlete in football, basketball and track. After graduating high school in 1959, Walton went to Iowa State on a football scholarship. In 1963, Walton was drafted in the third round of the NFL draft by the Detroit Lions and was also draftged by the San Deigo Chargers of the AFL. Walton turned down both teams, however, and came to the CFL to play for the Montreal Alouettes. Walton would play four seasons in the CFL, two with Monreal (1963-64) and two with Hamilton (1965-66). In those 4 years, Walton won 3 East All-Stars at guard (1963, 1965 and 1966) and one CFL All-Star in 1966. After the 1966 season, Walton returned to the States to play eight seasons (1967-74) for the Detroit Lions where he established a reputation as one of the toughest and most competent offensive guards in the league. Charles Richard (Dick) Walton passed away on October 6, 1998. Obituary for Charles Richard (Dick) Walton
