From Tisdale, Saskatchewan, George Voelk attended the University of Saskatchewan. where he both played football and was a heavyweight wrestler Voelk was a defensive tackle and drafted in the sixth round of the 1984 CFL college draft by the Montreal Concordes*. Voelke attended the Montreal training camp in 1984, but didn't make the team until his second attempt in 1985. Voelk dresed for all 16 games as a backup on the defensive line nad also played on special teams.
*The Alouettes operated for a few seasons under the name Concordes.
