P.W. Underwood was a guard / tackle from the Univesity of Southern Mississippi (1950-51). Underwood's professional football career was delay by a stin in the US. Army, but he continued to play military football at Fort Jackson, SC (1952-54). Underwood was a late round draft pick (28th) by the Chicago Bears in the 1954 NFL college draft. Underwood played two seasons in the CFL wit hthe Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 1957 and 1958. Following his playing days, Underwood became a coach, serving as an assistant at Auburn, Tennessee and Vanderbilt as well as the head coach of his alma mater at Southern Mississippi. Underwood is a member of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame. P.K. Underwood passed away on February 4, 2013.
