Byron Townsend played his college ball at the University of Texas, where he was elected to their Sports Hall of Fame in 1998. Prior to going to university, Townsend was a mamber of the 1946 Texas High School Football Champions as a member of Odessa High School. Townsend did two years in the army before joining the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 1954. It was a short but productive CFL career as Townsend rushed for 446 yards in just over half a season for the Bombers. Townsend went on to be the head coach of Texas Football League (minor pro) Odessa/Midland Comets in 1\966. Byron Townsend passed away on January 13, 2013.
