Tom Towns was a territorial exemption by Edmonton in 1975 from the University of Alberta where he was a star on both the football and wrestling teams. Towns joined the Eskimos that in 1975 and went on to play ten seasons in Edmonton (1975-1984). Towns was a regular at outside linebacker for most of those seasons which included the Edmonton dynasty that won five straight Grey Cups from 1978 to 1982. Towns was named to the Western All-Star team in three consecutive years (1978-80). Towns was traded to Ottawa prior to the 1985 season along with DB David Brown for a fourth round draft pick in the 1986 college draft (conditional on Brown makng the team). Towns had career totals of 4 interceptions, 11 fumble returns and 17 quarterback stas, though that last number is incomplete since quarterback sacks ewre only first tracked officially in 1981.
