Thomas had an oft interrupted CFL career that spanned from 1991 to 1999, but he did put up good stats as a defensive back and kick returner during his stays in the CFL. Thomas first joined Edmonton as a free agent in 1991 and played two seasons (1991-92) with the Esks, winning a West All-Star award in his rookie season in which he had 7 interceptions. Thomas had another 4 interceptions in 1992 and then signed the San Diego Chargers of the NFL. After spending the 1993 season on the Charger's injured list, Thomas returned to the CFL as a free agent with Toronto in 1994 and had another 4 interceptions. Thomas was traded to BC in May of 1995 along with SB Robert (Bobby) Gordon for QB Kent Austin. Thomas had 4 interceptions with BC in 1995 and had his best year returning kicks including a 98 yard kickoff return for a TD. Thomas was released by BC after training camp in 1996 and didn't play in the CFL that season. BC resigned him for the 1997 season, but released him in September, and while he played only 5 games that season, he still managed 2 interceptions. Montreal signed Thomas for the 1998 season, but released him in May before the regular season begain. After not playing in 1998, Thomas was signed by Winnipeg in June of 1999 and played 10 games for the Bombers in 1999, recording another 2 interceptions.
