Howard Starks

Howard Starks is best remembered as a very good defensive back and indeed he did win a pair of West All-Stars at defensive back (1971 and 1974) and had 26 career interceptions. When Starks first came to the CFL, however, in 1966 he was one of those speedy guys along the lines of Dave Raimey who could play either offence or defence and in his rookie season, Starks had 29 catches. Starks was also used on kickoff and punt returns. As his career progressed, Starks became almost exclusively used on defence.

Starks actually started his CFL career with Montreal, but that last only two games in 1966 before he moved on to Calgary to finish the season. Starks did not play in the CFL in 1967 and 1968, but returned to Calgary in 1969 and remained with the Stampeders until 1975. With Calgary, Starks won a Grey cup in 1971.
