Waddell Smith

Waddell Smith was an excellent receiver with Edmonton for seven seasons from 1977 to 1983.   Smith's career overlapped with the great George McGowen for the first two years, but for most of his career, along with Brian Kelly and Tommy Scott formed an outstanding trio of receivers for HOF Quarterbacks Tom Wilkinson and Warren Moon to throw the ball to.  Smith broke in to the CFL in 1977 with 19 catches in just 6 games.  The following season, in 1978, Smith boosted his totals to 58 catches for 875 yards.  1979 was Smith's best season with 74 catches for 1214 yards to win both West and CFL All-Star recognition.  Injuries limited Smith to only 12 games and 30 catches in 1981, but he bounced back in 1981 for his second thousand plus yard receiving season with 65 catches and 1077 yards.
