Ted Smale was born in Toronto and went on to playfor the Varsity Blues. Smale did see some actionwith Toronto Balmy Beachof the ORFU in 1952, but his CFL career started in 1956. Smale was a first round pick (fifth overall) by the Toonto Argonauts, but ended up in Ottawa where heplayed for seven years from 1956 to 1962. That was near the end of the two way players in the CFL and Smale played both offensiveand defensive end. Almost all of Smale's offensive production came in a singleseason when in 1959 he had 24 catches for closeto 500 yards and two of his three career touchdowns.
