Simpson played his college ball at Mississipi, and was drafted by the Washington Redskins. Saskatchewan originally held his CFL rights, but they were traded to Montreal, and Simpson signed with the Als in 1958. Simpson played three full seasons (1958-60) and part of 1961 with Montreal. He was a two-way All-Star, being named a defensive All-Star at defensie guard in 1958 and on offense at guard for 1958 and 1960. Simpson was also named the Al's Outstanding Lineman in 1958. Apparently Simpson was unhappy about the Als attempt to trade stars Sam Etcheverry and Hal Patterson after the 1960 season. Simpson's unhappiness with the downward direction of the Als probably resulted in in the trade that sent him to Calgary after only one game in the 1961 season. Simpson played 3 games for Calgary (though he is not listed on the Calgary all-time roster), before suddenly bolting the team en route to a game in Winnipeg. Simpson signed with the Denver Broncos of the AFL in 1961, and played 1962-64 with the Oakland Raiders of the NFL. Simpson returned to Canada in 1965, and his rights were now with Winnipeg where he played 8 games. Simpson's departure from Winnipeg was not a happy one as he was released just hours before a game, with the two sides disagreeing on the tact with which it was done. Simpson later signed with Toronto to complete the 1965 season. Jackie Simpson passed away June 2, 1983. Complete NFL stats for Jackie Simpson
