Bobby Simpson
Simpson played his entire career for the Ottawa Rough Riders from 1950 to 1962. Although better known for his pass receiving skills, Bobby played both sides of the ball with equal talent playing both Flying Wing / Wide Receiver and defensive back. In 1957, he recorded his hightest total of receptions in a year with 51 and also had 6 pass interceptions. In 1956 when he had 47 catches and 1030 yards receiving, he also picked off four opposition passes. Simpson was also a regular punt returner for the Rough Riders. Simpson picked up East Division All-Star status six times on offense and twice on defense. In 1951, 56, 57* and 59 as an End / Wide Receiver, 52 and 53 as a Flying Wing and as a defensive back in 57 and 58. There were no All-Canadians until 1963, the year after Simpson retired or you can be sure he would have snagged a few of them as well. No individual stats were kept in the East until 1954, so there are no numbers for some of Simpson's best years. Bobby Simpson was elected to the CFL Hall of Fame in 1975. Bobby Simpson passed away on November 28, 2007.* The CFL Facts & Figures Book (2006 edition) lists Simpson as an All-Star at running back in 1957, but he never carried the ball once, so this is probably an error and should have been for end / wide receiver.
