From Penn State, Shuman joined the Hamilton Tiger-Cats partway through the 1976 season. Shuman remained with Hamilton through 1977 and the strat of 1978, mainly as a backu-up at quarerback. After his release by Hamilton, Shuman had a tryout with the Toronto Argonauts and was released. The Montreal Alouettes ewre having injury problems ar quarterback and added Shuman for three gemes in 1978. Prior to coming to the CFL, shuman had played for the Philadelphia Bell of the World Football League.
