A native Saskatchewan boy, Wayne Shaw played junior football for the highly successfull Saskatoon Hilltops. Shaw graduated to the Roughriders in 1961 and spent his entire twelve year career (1961-72) in green and white. Shaw won six West All-Star honours (1963, 1964, 1966, 1967, 1969 and 1971) as well as one CFL All-Star (1967) at linebacker. Perhaps more important than the individual honours though is that Saskatchewan fans will always remember him as a big part of the 1966 Grey Cup victory, the first in franchise history. In his career, Shaw recorded 21 interceptions and 20 fumble recoveries. In 1963, Shaw had a career high of 6 fumbler recoveries which led the West. Shaw also tied for the West lead with 3 fumble recoveries the next year in 1964. Shaw had one career touchdown on an interception return in 1966.
There wre no quarterback sack or tackle stats kept during the years Shaw played.
