Billy Roy

Billy Roy was born in Toronto and played college ball in the States at Citrus Junior college before returning to play in Canada. Roy played 9 seasons as an offensive lineman from 1962 to 1970. Roy played four seasons in Montreal (1962-65), two seasons in Edmonton (1966-67) and three seasons in Calgary (1968-70). Roy was traded to Edmonton in February of 1968 along with defensive back Terry Wilson for defensive back Dick Dupuis. After the 1970 season, Calgary traded Roy to Winnipeg for wide receiver John Senst, but Roy retired before the 1971 season.

Following his football career, Roy remained in Calgary where he coached the Calgary Mohawks junior football team. After his death at age 36 on November 27, 1978, the Billy Roy Memorial trophy was created to honour the top lineman in Calgary junior football.
