A product of the University of Georgia (1954-1956), Roberts was picked in the 20th round of the 1957 draft by the New York Giants. Lost to military service for two years, he was released by the Giants in August 1960. Picked up by the Alouettes, he played one game for the Alouettes in 1960, on September 5 1960. He caught two passes from Sam Etcheverry for 75 yards in a victory over Ottawa. Despite this he was released by the Alouettes on September 15, 1960.
