Ed Philion was drafted by the Calgary Stampeders in the first round (11th overall) of the 1994 CFL College Draft from Ferris State. Philion took a detour down south to the NFL and played two seasons (1994-95) with the Buffalo Bills, dressing for 6 games before coming home to Canada. Calgary traded Philion to Montreal for a first round pick in the 1999 CFL draft, and Philion joined the Als in 1999. Philion would go on to play 8 seasons n Montreal from 1999 to 2006. He would win 4 East Division All-Stars (2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006) at defensive tackle. Philion totalled 37 career quarterback sacks, 2 interceptions and 4 fumble recoveries. Philion made five trips to the Grey Cup with the Als, winning once in 2002. Following his playing career, Phillion worked as a colour commentator on Montreal Alouette broadcasts. In 2013, Phillion started his CFL coaching career, becoming the defensive line coach for the Toronto Argonauts.
