A montreal native, it was only natural that Perowne would return to play for the Alouettes after playing his college ball at Bishop's. Perowne was actually drafted by the Ottawa Rough Riders in the CFL College Draft, but he was traded to the Als for Tom Pullen. Perowne played three years for Montreal (1972-74), starting his career as a wide receiver in 1972, but was converted to defensive back in his second year in 1973. Besides his regular position, Perowne was used as a punt returner. This was in still in the era of no blocking on punt returns, a practice that Montreal coach Marv Levy would refer to as barbaric. The rule was changed, but not in time to help Perowne, who took a battering returning punts and that ended his career prematurely. Despite the no blocking rule, Perowne did manage to break one punt return for 44 yards in 1973. Perowne also had a pair of interceptions in 1973, including one returned for 65 yards. After retiring from football, Perowne, was active with the Montreal Alouettes alumni, and is a past president of the organization.
