Dan Payne played fourteen seasons in the CFL from 1989 to 2003, with four different teams and playing 213 career games. Payne started his CFL career with Saskatchwan, drafted out of Simon Fraser, in the second round (ninth overall) of the 1689 CFL College Draft. Like many young offensive linemen, it took Payne a while to get established and in fact he even retired after his first season with the Riders. Payne was traded by the riders to his home province BC Lions in November of 1990 and Payne played three games for the Leos that season. BC released Payed in July of 1991 and he didn't play all of that season. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed Payne for 1992 and he played 8 games for them and then signed as a free agent for 1993 with Saskatchewan for a second tour of duty. With the Riders in 1993, Payne established himself finally and he played all 18 games with Saskatchewan for the next three seasons (1993-95). Payne was then part of a trade that sent him to Montreal along with kicker Dave Ridgeway, running back David Pitcher, defensive back Anthony Drawhorn and the rights to Matthew Quiviger for fullback Bruce Boyko, running back Willie Latta, offensive tackle John James and future consideratoins. Payne never played a game for MOntreal as they released him in June, 1996 before the season started. BC signed Payne for his second stint with them which lasted one game more than his first three game stint back in 1990. Toronto signed Payne in August after his release by BC and he finished hte year with the Argos and also played all 18 games for them in 1997. Toronto released Payne in January, 1998 and he resigned with fora thid stin with BC in June. This was a much longer stay than the first two times around as Payne settled in for a six year stint, missing just one game in those six years from 1998 to 2003..
Payne had one blocked kicked with Saskatchewan in 1989.
