Darrell Patterson had a solid seven year CFL career that begain with his signing as a free agent with Winnipeg in September of 1984. Patterson remained with the Bombers through the 1987 season, before being traded to Ottawa for QB Joe Paopao. Patterson was traded by Ottawa late i in his first season with the Rough Riders (1988) to Hamilton for future consideration. Patterson finished the 1988 season with Hamilton, and played there in 1989 and 1990 before being released by Hamilton in November of 1990.
