Okeke signed with the expansion Shreveport Pirates in June of 1994, and played two years with them. Okeke became a free agent after the folding of the U.S. based teams, and was signed and released by Montreal before the 1996 season started. Ottawa signed Okeke as a free agent with for 1996, and then for the second straight year was on a team that was disbanded as the Rough Riders ceased to exist after 1996. Montrel corrected the mistake they made by letting Okeke go the previous year, as they drafted Okeke in the dispersal draft. Okeke went on to win seven East and seven CFL All-Star honours with the Als (1997, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005). Okeke also won the Outstanding Offensive Lineman award in 1999, and was runner-up twice in 1998 and 2003.
