Rollie Miles played his entire eleven year CFL career with Edmonton from 1951 to 1961.   Because of the smaller rosters back then, versatility was an important characteristic in a player and Miles was more versative than most, playing several positions on offense and defense as well as returning kicks.  Actually, calling Miles versatile might be an insult, since he did not just play the various positions, he excelled at them all.  Miles, along with three other hall of fame players, Jackie Parker, Johnny Bright, and Normie Kwong, would form the heart of the Edmonton offesne that won three consecutive Grey Cups from 1954 ot 1956.  Miles, along with Kwong jonied Edmonton in 1951, with Bright and Parker joining the team in 1954.  In his rookie season in 1951, Miles had 52 carries for 416 yards and a nifty 8.0 rushing average.  In the next three seasons (1952-54), Miles was named a West All-Star at running back.  While he had only 220 yards rushing in 1952, Miles added 22 catches for 342 yards receiving, 474 yards on KO returns and 384 yards on punt returns.  Mile's best years rushing were 1953 with 815 yards and 1954 with 834 yards.  Those may not seem like really impressive numbers by today's standards, but keep in mind that teams tended to spread the ball out more among t heir running backs back then - and also remember the quality of the players that Miles shared the backfield with!  In 1954, Miles became one of one a small handful of players to be named an All-Star on both offense and dfense in the same season as he was a West All-Star at running back and defensive back.  After 1954, Miles continued to see action on offense, but not to the same extent as the running game was turned over mainly to the duo of Bright and Kwong.  Miles was named a West All-Star on defense again in 1955 and 1956 at defensive back.  In 1958, Miles moved to lay outside linebacker and recorded a career high ten interceptions to pick up another West All-Star honour.  Miles added his eighth and final West All-Star honour in 1959, again at linebacker. [Note:  there were no CFL All-Stars selected until 1962].  Rollie Miles was named to the CFL Hall of Fame in1980.
