Marv Luster had a long and distinguished fourteen year career in the CFL from 1961 to 1974.  Luster started and finished his career with the Alouettes, with a nine year stay in Toronto in the middle. Luster was originally drafted out of UCLA by the Los Angelas Ram in the ninth round of the 1960 NFL draft, but played his whole professional career in Canada.  Anyone who remembers Marv Luster from the end of his career probably remembers him as one of the best defensive backs in the CFL, but in his early years, Luster was also an excellent receiver.  Luster had 31 catches in his rookie season, good enough for sixth in the East and tops on an anemic Montreal offense that had just lost Sam Etcheverry.  Luster improved his total to 36 catches in 1962, moving up one slot to fifth best in the East and again leading the Als.  That season, Luster had 725 yard receiving for an excellent 201 yards per catch.  Luster was named an East All-Star at wide receiver in both 1961 and 1962.  Luster's numbers dropped a bit in 1963, mainly due to missing a couple of games, but his 22 catches were still tops on the Als.  Luster was traded to Toronto partway through the 1964 season, and his career took a significant change from offense to defense.  Luster had played some defense with the Als, recording one inter ception in each of his first three seasons, but now the Argos used him almost exclusively on defense.  In 1964, Luster had 13 catches in 6 games with Montreal before the trade and only one catch in seven games with the Argos after the trade.  Luster did have a brief return to offens in 1965 witch 10 catches, but those would be the last 10 catches of his career.  Luster rwould go on to record 26 career interceptions, with a career best of 7 in 1966 which was good for second best in the East.  Luster won seven consecutive East All-Star selections from 1966 to 1972 inclusive and 6 CFL All-Stars in that same period, missing only in 1967.  Luster had to wait until his final season with Montreal before winning a Grey Cup as the Als beat Edmonton 20-7 that year.  Luster had come close in 1971 with the Argos, but the late fumble by Leo McQuay and a botched punt return finished Toronto that year.  Marv Luster was elected to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1990.  In 2006, Luster was named to the top 50 All-Time CFL player list, in the #35 spot.
