From the University of Tennessee, Hal Ledyard was a ninth round draft pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 1953. Ledyard spent one unmemorable season in the NFL with the 49ers, dressing in 10 games, throwing 9 passes and completing none. Ledyard spent 1954 and 1955 in the US. Army before joining the Ottawa Rough Riders in 1956 and had much more succes. Ledyard's first year in Canada was actually his best as he threw for a very credible 3151 yards in a 14 game schedule. Injuries curtailed Ledyard to 8 games in 1957 and 9 in 1958 and then Russ Jackson arrived on t he Rough Rider scene and made Ledyard expendable Ledyard spent a couple of years with Sarnia in the ORFU in 1959 and 1960 before returning to the CFL with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Ledyard remained with the Bombers from 1961 and into the start of the 1965 season. Ledyard was the backup to Kenny Ploen for much of that time, but did see significant action at quarterback in relief of Ploen and earned a good reputaton for his work. Ledyard finished his career in 1965 as the backup to Ron Lancaster with Saskatchewan. Hal Ledyard's son, Grant Ledyard played many years in the NHL. Hal Ledyard died on April 21, 1973 when he drowned at Big Sur, California.
