Cody Ledbetter was signed by Edmonton on May 23, 1996. Ledbetter dressed for all 18 games in 1996 as a backup quarterback, throwing a total of 67 passes. Ledbetter was traded to Winnipeg for the Bomber's first round pick in the 1997 Ottawa dispersal draft. Winnipeg released Ledbetter on June 18, 1997 so he did not play any regular season games for them. Ledbetter ended up not playing in the CFL in 1997, but was signed by Hamilton on May 19, 1998. Ledbetter spent four seasons (1998-2001) with the Tiger-Cats, seeing limited action. Ledbetter was released by Hamilton on April 26, 2002. After his football playing days were over, Ledbetter started to coach at the high school level, but ran into trouble with the law. In 2005, Ledbetter pleaded guilty to having sex with a 16 year old student at the Alvarado, Texas school. Ledbetter got off with ten years of probation, but his troubles with the law wasn't over. Ledbetter apparently fled to Canada in 2009 when it looked like his probation was about to be revoked and he would be arrested for breach of his probatrion. In July, 2010, Ledbetter was charged with assault of his girl friend in Ottawa. Ledbetter ended up being deported back to Texas where he was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
