Patrick Lavoie undergoes successful lower back surgery
The Montreal Alouettes announced on Monday that fullback Patrick Lavoie had successful surgery performed on his lower back on Friday. He was discharged from the hospital a few hours following the procedure. The 25-year-old will not participate in the team's 2013 mini-camp, which is scheduled to take place from April 24 to 26 in Orlando, FL. His recovery time should allow him to be ready for the first game of the regular season on June 27 when the Alouettes visit the Blue Bombers in Winnipeg. Lavoie sustained the injury during the season, but irritated it while working out during the off-season. Team doctors tried avoiding surgery, but his condition was not improving.
The Sainte-Flavie, QC, native was named the Alouettes Rookie of the year in 2012 after hauling in 33 catches for 307 yards while adding four touchdowns to the mix. He was the Alouettes first pick (11th total) in the 2012 CFL Canadian Draft.
