Willie Lambert was born in Welland, Ontario and played college football at McGill in Montreal for six years. Lambert was a multi-position player, playing running back, wide receiver, defensive back and returning kicks. Lambert didn't just play the positions, he excelled at them, winning All-Star honours at both runnng back and defensive back. Besides excelling on the football field, Lambert excelled in his studies, earned a Physical Education degree in 1960 and his Doctorate of Dentistry in 1964. Lambert was drafted by Hamilton, and attended training camp with the Tiger-Cats, but returned to university to complete his dental degree. Lambert did join the Montreal Alouettes for one season in 1964 and while listed as a running back, he was used mainly as a pass receiver with 16 catches and no rushing carries. A hand injury convnced Lambert to leave football to concentrate on his dental practice, a practice which he kept up for nearly fifty years. Lambert didn't entirely forget football though. In 1971, McGill was contemplating dropping the footbal program, and it was Lambert and others who not only convinced McGill to continue the program, but actively raised money to fund it. Lambert was rewarded for his contributions to McGill, both on and off the field, by induction into the McGill Sports Hall of Fame in 1998. Dr. Willie Lambert passed away from congestive heart failure on November 21, 2009. He will be missed by family friends, patients and the McGill football program he gave so much to. Lambert Retires to Dentistry - June 29, 1965
