Craig Labbett was born in Toronto, and played high schol ball in Waterloo and his college ball at Western Ontario. At Western, Labbettt was a Canadian All=Star in his last two years in 1976 and 1977. Labbett was one of Montreal's territorial picks in the 1978 draft (Waterool was in the Montreal protection area). Labbett broke into the CFL in 1978 with Montreal, playing just six games and with only one catch, but that catch went for a TD. Labbett started the 1979 season with the Argos, but after one game was sent to Hamilton where he had 8 catches and one of those for a TD. 1980 was a reverse of 1979, as Labbett started with Hamilton and then finished the season with Toronto. Labbett picked up his third career TD on a fumble return.
