Lou Kusserow was drafted out of Columbia in 1949 by the Detroit Lions of the NFL is the third round of the college draft. At Columbia, Kusserow had been an All-American and helped the Columbia defeat Army in 1947, breaking their 32 game winning streak. Kuseserow ended up playing two years (1949-50) with the New York Yankees of the AAFC and then after two years in the army, coming to Hamilton in 1953. .Lou Kusserow had a short four year career in the CFL from 1953 to 1956 with Hamilton, but he proved himself to be one of the best two way players of his time. Kusserow won three East All-Stars at defensive back (1953, 1954 and 1955) and one at running back in 1955. Kusserow seemed to be able to provide whatever Hamilton needed from him on offense or defense. While there are no stats for 1953, Kusserow was used mainly as a receiver out of the backfield in 1954 as he ran for 338 yards and caught 49 passes for another 702 yards. The 49 catches was third best in the East. In that same season, Kuserow has 5 interceptions, returning one of them for a touchdown. In 1955, Hamilton needed Kuserow to run the ball more and he had 127 carries for 743 yards, good for third in the East. Lou Kusserow retired from football in 1957 and went to work for NBC as a business manager and then a producer. Kusserow is a member of the Columbia Athletic Hall of Fame.
