Mike Kovac was born in Hamilton, Ontario, and played his college football with the University of Western Ontario Mustangs. Kovac joined the Montreal Alouettes in 1953 and went on to play nine seasons with the Larks (1953-61), mainly as a guard. Kovac was best known for his great blocking ability. Kovac played in three consecutive Grey Cups with Montreal (1954-56), but unfortunately for him and the Als, they lost all three games to Edmonton.
