The 23 year-old Calgary native was drafted in the 4th round (29th total)  by the Alouettes in the 2013 CFL draft and had recorded 12 defensive tackles and one sack in his rookie season. His first sack occurred in his first game at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium. Klassen progressed rapidly as he went from a late round draft pick to being a starter in less than a year.

"Michael has a high ceiling. He has continued to grow at a rapid pace, just like he did from start to finish during his last season of CIS football", said Alouettes General Manager Jim Popp. "He was having a great 2014 season before the season ending injury. He possesses a great work ethic and is an excellent teammate."

Klassen was slated to become a free agent in February.
