Jimmy Kemp played for six teams in his eight year CFL career as a Quarterback. For most of those years, Kemp was a back-up, but had his longest stint (three years) at the end of his career with Toronto and his final season in 2001 was his most productive year. Kemp started his career with the Sacremento Gold Miners, signing with them as a free agent in May of 1994. The Gold Miners released Kemp in January of 1995, but he then joined the team again when it was transplanted to San Antonio for the 1995 season. After the American based teams folded, following the 1995 season, Kemp was selected in the third round (27th overall) by the Montreal Alouettes in the dispersal draft. After playing 8 games with Montreal in 1996, Kemp was traded on August 19 to Saskatchewan for DB Dwayne Provo. Kemp completed the 1996 season with the Roughriders, and then signed as a free agent with Edmonton where he played two seasons (1997 and 1998). Kemp was traded to the Toronto Argonauts in June of 1999 along with Inoke Brekterfield for Marcello Simmons and Quarterback Nealon Greene. Kemp had his best season with Toronto in 2001, completing 58.8% of his 320 pass attempts for 2838 yards. Jimmy Kemp's father was Jack Kemp, who played with Calgary, also as a Quarterback in 1959, before going on to star in the AFL and become a well known Republican politician.
