Ellison Kelly is probably best remembered as an outstanding offensive lineman, but his career started in 1960, just at the end of the two-way player era. Kelly did play some defense that rookie season, and actually recorded an interception. Kelly's career was a distinguished 13 seasons, spanning 1960 to 1972. Eleven of those season were with Hamilton, and the last two were with the Argos in Toronto. Kelly won 8 East All-Star selections, four at Offensive Guard with Hamilton (1961, 1962, 1963 and 1964) and four at Offensive Tackle. Three of the latter selections were with Hamilton (1968, 1969 and 1970), and one with Toronto in 1971. Kelly also was named o the CFL All-Star team three times, at Guard in 1964 and at Tackle in 1969 and 1970. While Ellison Kelly was born in Lake City, Florida, you will see him listed as a non-import on some programs. At the time, teams could declare a player a non-imort if he played a certain number of seasons in Canada. After a court case to settle the import / non-import issue, Kelly was one of the handful of Americans (others included in this were Ron Lancaster and Al Ecuyer) who were considered to be non-imports Ellison Kely was elected to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1993..
