From the university of Louisiana - Monre, Steven Jyles signed as a free agent with the Edmonton Eskimos for the 2006 season. A mobile quarterback, Jyles seemed ideal for the CFL, but it took him several seasons to get a chance at a starting job. Edmonton has Ricky Ray firmly established as the number one quarterback and Jyles would throw only 51 passes for his two seasons n Edmonton (2006-07). Jyles was then traded to Saskatchewan for Fred Perry to start the 2008 season. Jyles seemed to have a shot at earning the starting job with the Riders since Saskatchewan had just traded their starting QB and the 2007 Most Outstanding Player, Kerry Joseph to Toronto. Jyles, however settled down on the depth chart and the Riders would eventually go with Michael Bishop as their starter for most of the season. With Bishop's expulsion from Regina after the horrible West semi-final loss to BC, Jyles seemed to have another chance in 2009 to capture the starting job. This time, however, he lost it to Darien Durant who would take the Riders to the Grey Cup before losing on the infamous too many men on the field penalty. Satisfied with Durant, the Riders let Jyles go as a free agent and he was snaped up by the Winnipeg Blue bombers for the 2010 season. With the Blue and Gold in 2010, Jyles saw more action that the prevous four years combined and had a credible season, clompleting 61.6% of his 318 pass attempts for 2804 yards. Credible, but not outstanding and when the Bombers signed free agent Buck Pierce, Jyles was considered expendable and dealt ot to Toronto for a first round draft pick. Jyles seemed to be installed as the Argos #1 quarterback before the season started, but an injury put him out for the first half of the season. Rushed back in to a floundering Argnonaut team, Jyles did his best, but rather failed to set the wolrd on fire. With the 100the Grey Cup to be hosted in their home town, the Argnonauts wanted a start quarterback for 2012 and traded Jyles to Edmonton, where his CFL career began, in exchange for future HOF quarterback Ricky Ray. The trade raised the ire of the Edmonton fans and put Jyles under a lot of pressure. Edmonton seemed to stagger through the 2012 season, making the playoffs as the cross-over team to the East as Winnipeg and Hamilton were even worse than Edmonton. By then, Jyles had some injury problems and didn't light it up when he was playing and had lost his job to Kerry Joseph who Edmonton had obtained mainly as veteran insurance. The failed trade was probably the main reason why Edmonton took the unusual step of firing their GM Eric Tillman after the regular season and before the East semi-final against Toronto and of course Ricky Ray. Going into 2013, Edmonton decided to cut their losses with Jyles and go with either youngster Matt Nichols or perhaps Mike Reilly who they picked up from BC. Jyles was released by Edmonton in January, 2013. Jyles Released by Edmonton - January 21, 2013
