Out of Southern University, Tyrone Jones signed as a free agent with the Winnipeg Blue bombers in April, 1983. Jones was an instant impact player, recording 17.5 quarterback sacks in his rookie season. In the next four seasons, Jones won both divisional and CFL All-Star honours at linebacker. The best year fo rJones was 1985 when Jones was named both the Outstanding Defensive Player in he West and in the CFL. Jones signed as a free agent with the St. Louis Cardinals of the NFL for the 1988 season. Jones returned to the Bombers and the CFL in 1989. Jones played three more seasons with Winipeg (1989-91) though he didn't have the same success in his second tour in Blue and Gold. Jones did add his fifth division All-Star in 1990. Jones was traded to the Saskatcheewan Roughriders for Aor the 1992 season with the Bombers getgting slotback Allen Boyko and a first round draft pick in return. After one season with the Riders, Jones played his final season with the BC Lions in 1983. Jones put up some impressive stats in his career with 110 quarertback sacks, 15 interceptions and 9 fumble recoveiies. Jone scored three carfeer touchdowns, one on a 92 yard fumble retgur, one on an interception return and one , perhaps surprisingly, on a pass reception. There were no tackle stats kept for the firstg half of Jones' career. Jones won two Grey Cups in two appearances witgh the Bombers, picking up wins in 1984 and 1990. Tyrone Jones pased away on June 10, 2008 from brain cancer at the age of 46. Four years after his death, Jones was inducted into the Canadian Footaall Hall of Fame in 2012.
