A defensive back, Jim jauch attended North Carolina University. Jauch was drafted in the third round (18th overall) by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the 1989 CFL college draft. Nufortunately for Jauch, he missed out on the Rider Grey Cup season in 1989 as he was traded to Calgary before the season started for a third round draft pick in the 1990 draft which turned out to be offensive lineman Craig Hendrickson. After one season in Calgary, Jauch was released and signed as a free agent with Edmonton for 1990. Edmonton released Jauch in July of 1991, just before the season start4ed, and he ended up not playing the entire season. Hamilton signed Jauch as a free agent for 1992, and he played two seasons for the Tiger-Cats. Jauch saw fairly limited time at defensive back during his career, and played mainly on special teams. Jauch recorded one career interception with Edmonton in 1990 and had a career high 12 special teams tackls in his final season with Hamilton in only 11 games. Jauch has made a career as a scout in the NFL since the end of his playing days. Jauch workedfor the San Diego Chargers from 1992 to 2003 and then had a stint with the Cleveland Browns before returning to the Chagers in 2010. Note that for 1989 and 1990, the CFL did not distignuish between defensive tackles and special teams tackles. That only started in 1991.
Jauch also had one of his own team's kickoffs recovered for 5 yards with Calgary in 1989.
