Charles Horton played college football at Vanderbilt, where he also lettered in track and fencing. Horton was a member of the Vandebilt team that won the Gator Bowl and was a third team (AP Al-American and a conference All-Star in 1955. After playing his college ball at Vanderbilt, Charles Horton was drafted twice. He was a 15th round pick of the Washington Redskins in 1955 and then redrafted by the Los Angelas Rams in 1956. Before Horton could join the NFL, he spent two years in the United States Arm where he continued to play football. Horton was named the best Service player in 1956 and was an All Service All-Star in 1957. Horton played five games as a halfback with Montreal in 1958. Horton went both ways for the Alouettes, playing running back on offence and defensive bakck where he recorded one interception. Horton was also used on kick returns. Following his playing career, Horton became a football official, and selected toofficiate in 17 bowl games during his career.
