Corey Holmes was a very popular player among Saskatchewan Roughrider fans. Holmes was best known for his kick return ability, but he also filled in very will at running back or as an extra receiver. Holmes was originally signed by t he Riders in April of 2001, seeing action in just 3 games in his rookie season. Holme's best season offensively came in 2005 when he had 899 yards rushing. Holmes was actually leading the league in rushing early in the season, but returned to his backup and kick return role when Kenton Keith returned to the lineup. Holmes was twice named to the CFL All-Star team as a special teams player and also twice won the Oustanding Special Teams Player award (2002 and 2005). In that 2005 season, bnesides the 899 yards rushing, Holmes had 523 yards receiving on 56 catches, 1157 yards on kickoff returns and 835 tyards on punt returns. Rider fans were not happy when Holmes was traded to Hamilton prior to the 2006 season along with S Scott Gordon for the first pick in the Ottawa Renegade dispersal draft. The Riders needed a QB, however, and selected Kerry Joseph who would go on to lead the Riders to the Grey Cup in 2007. Holmes got to share in the Grey Cup victory, however, when the Riders reaquired him halfway through the 2007 season for WR Jason Armstead. Holmes was released by the Riders just prior to the 2008 season.
