Hammond was a fifth round draft pick of the Phoenix Cardinals in 1991 and released in training camp. He was picked up by the Los Angelas Rams in November of 1991 and put on their practice roster. Hammond was allocated by LA to the San Antonio Riders of the WLAF for the 1992 season. Hammond also spent time with the Sacremento Surge of the WLAF before signing in 1993 with the newly formed Sacremento Gold Miners of the CFL. Hammond was a regular in 1993, with 37 tackles and 4 sacks, but was restricted to a backup role in 1994 with Sacremento and was released in September of that year. Hammond signed with the expansion Memphis Maddogs in March of 1995, again acting as a backup defensive lineman. After the folding the U.S. based teams, Hammond was drafted in the seventh round of the dispersal draft by Calgary, but never played any games for the Stampeders.
