From the University of Iowa, Mike Hagler capped his college career with a win in the 1957 Rose Bowl over Oregon State. Hagler's teammates at Iowa included future CFL Hall of FamerKen Ploen and NFL Hall ofFamer Alex Karas.. Mike Hagler had a great rookie year with the Saskatchwan in 1958. Hagler rushed for 657 yards and a 6.1 yard average on a team that also included the great Cookie Gilchrist and Bobby Marlow at running back. Hagler added anothe 381 yard pass receiving, 744 yards on kickoff returns and 768 yards on punt returns, the latter two numbers leading the West that year. hagler didn't get off to a good start in 1959 and was released by Saskatchewan partway through the the season Ottawa signed Hagler for 1960 where he only played three games before being released and finishing the season with the London Lords of the ORFU (Ontario Rugby Football Union).. In 1961, Hagler was at the New York Titans (later the Jets) training camp and was one of their last cuts. Hagler continued to play football, however, playing three seasons (1963-65) with the Newark Bears. The Bears played in the Atlantic Coast Football League in 1963 and 1964 and in the Continental Football League in 1965. In 1966, Halgler played for the Brooklyn team in the Continental Football League. Hagler was a league All-Star in both 1964 and 1965.
