Art Haege was a guard / linebacker out of Saint Ambrose's College (Davenport, Iowa) where he was named the Athlete of the Year in 1959, and later became the first person inducted into their Hall of Fame in 1993. Haege played with the Boston Patriots of the AFL in 1960 and 1961 (though he is does not show up as having played any regular season games in the NFL databases) , as well as the semi-pro Chicago Bulls in 1961 after his release by the Patrots. Haege joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1963, but was released early in the season. Following the end of his playing career, Haege started a career as a coach with LaSalle High School. Haege would go on to have a long and successful coaching career at the high school and college ranks. Haege also was a head coach in the Arena Football League with the Milwaukee Mustangs. Art Haege passed away from a brain aneurism on March 5, 2007. Haege Signs With Roughriders - June 28, 1963 Haege Released By Riders - August 14, 1963 Haege Named Interm Coach of Milwaukee Mustangs - June 15, 1994
No official games played stats were kept in the West until 1964. The August 14 article (above) mentions Haege has having played against BC (August 8) before being released. Haege does not show up in any other stat catagories for 1963. Haege's obituary lists him as playing 12 games for Saskatchewan in 1962, but this appears not to be correct as he was not with Saskatchewan in 1962.
