Eric Guthrie

Eric Guthrie was one of the last Canadians to get some time at the quarterback positon in the CFL.  Guthrie only saw a token bit of time in his first two years in BC (1972 and 1973).  In 1974, Guthried went south to the WFL where he saw some action with the Detroit Wheels:  21 attempts, 7 completions for 79 yards, 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions. When the Wheels folded in October, Guthrie was drafted by the Philadelphia Bell but didn't see any aciton with them.  Guthrie returned to the CFL in 1974 and some more action 84 pass attempts, and his best year was 1976 with 221 attempts.  While his pass completoin percentage that year was not fantastic at 48.8%, it was still better than the import (Rick Cassetta) that he shared time with.  Guthrie also did the punting for BC in his first three seasons, leading the West in rookie season, then finishing second and third in the next two years.  In 1976, a guy named Lui Passaglia came along to take over the kicking.  Guthrie was sent to Saskatchewan in 1977 where he finished his career as a backup to Ron Lancaster.
