Charles Gibbons was a star at Track & Field and Football at Rhode Island, graduating in 1956. In all Gibbons won five letters and was named the most distinguished senior athlete in 1956. After graduating, Gibbons signed with the Montreal Alouettes in May of 1956 and showed well while playing in two exibition games before being released at the end of August. When injuries struck, the Alouettes recalled Gibbons who played 6 games for them that season. After leaving football as a player, Gibbons went on to become a teacher and football coach at Rogers High School in Newport. Gibbons was named to the Rhode Island Athletic Hall of Fame in 1974 and is also a member of both the Providence and New Port Halls of Fame.
