Keith Gary was another of the high profile American college players that the Alouettes went after in the early 1980s. Out of Oklahoma, Gary was a first round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in tghe 1981 CFL draft, but was lured North to play for the Alouettes for two seasons from 1981 to 1982. 1981 was the year of the failed Vince Ferragamo experiment in Montreal, and 1982 wasn't much bet ter. Gary played a total of 20 games in the new seasons for the Alouettes, recording 9.5 quarterback sacks. Partway through the 1982 season the Concordes, as the Alouettes had been renamed, decuded Gart didn't fit into their future plans. It was more a case of the cash strapped team not being able to afford Gary's salary than a lack of talent. After 1982, Gary returned to the States and played six seasons with the Steelers from 1983 to 1988, recording a total of 25 quarterback sacks.
