Frank Fraser

Frank Fraser was a multi-sport athlete, playing footbal, baseball and hockey at the junior level in Quebec. It was football that gave Fraser a scholarship to Tennessee A&M (now Tennessee State) where he also excelled academically, graduating with a B.Sc..

Fraser was a Montreal product and initially the product of the Alouettes. Montreal gave Ottawa permission to give him a try out in September of 1956 and Faster ended up sticking and playin three years with the Ottawa Rough Riders (1956-58) at running back and defensive back. Fraser was traded to Saskatchewan in March of 1959 as part of a five for one blockbuster deal that sent Frank Tripucka to the Ottawa Rough Riders from the Green Riders. Fraser played two seasons with Saskatchewan (1959-60) and was then reaquired by Ottawa in 1961, but then sold to Winnpeg in August of that year. Fraser played one game with the Bombers in 1961 before a knee injury finished him for the year. Fraser tried out again with Winnipeg in 1962, didn't catch on. Later that year, however, Fraser did join the Edmonton Eskimos for six games. Fraser did return to play 5 games for Winnipeg in 1963, seeing action mainly as a punt returner. Fraser was a running back, but his best year offensively came in 1960 with Saskatchewan when he caught 22 passes for 360 yards while rushing for another 157. Fraser was also handy on kickoff and punt returns. Fraser's 419 yards on kickoff returns in 1959 for Saskatchewan was third best in the West that year.

Fraser worked part-time for Atomic Energy of Canada as an engineer while playing football and went to full-time once his playing days were over. Fraser continued to be active in sports. He played rugby in Ottawa and coached both minor hockey and junior football.

Frank Fraser passed away on May17, 2004.
