Out of Brigham Young University, Neal Fort was a sixth round draft pick of the Los Angelas Rams of the NFL in 1991. Fort spent the 1991 season on the Rams developmental roster, and then attended the Atlanta Falcons training camp in 1992. Fort signed with the Baltimore Stallions of the CFL in 1994. Fort played two seasons with the Stallions (1994-95), and the team went to the Grey Cup in both seasons. The Stallions came up empty in 1994, but in 1995 became the first and only U.S. based team to win the title in the Canadian league. When the American based teams folded after the 1995 season, the Baltimore team moved to Montreal to revive the Alouettes franchise, and Fort went with them. Fort would play nine seasons in Montreal from 1996 to 2004. Fort won four divisional All-Stars at offensive tackle, one Southern All-Star with Baltimore in 1995 and three East All-Stars with Montreal in 1996, 1997 and 2003. Fort also won two CFL All-Stars in 1995 and 1997. Besides the two trips to the Grey Cup with Baltimore, Fort made three more appearances while with Montreal, winning in 2002 and losing in 2000 and 2003.
